Let's Start At The Beginning...

Hi, I’m Melissa, a twenty-something year old living outside of Toronto and I am currently enrolled in the Advertising and Marketing Communications Management program at Sheridan College. In my daily life, I am exposed to many different creative and innovative advertisements. Shortly after starting the course, I began keeping track of the advertisements that caught my eye and really stood out as being unique. I created this blog to share with you the most inspiring advertisements I’ve seen yet!

These advertisements serve as both inspiration and motivation for my class assignments and as great professional examples to look up to.  They are my inspiration for when I struggle to complete an assignment, especially when I am brainstorming ideas for my copy and layout class. They remind me of why I chose to take this course in the first place, and why I cannot wait to start my future career in advertising. The possibilities are endless! It’s exciting to think that one day I will play a role in creating advertisements as captivating and innovative as the ones I’ve seen. Hopefully they will also inspire a new generation of advertisers like myself.

Here are three amazing out-of-home advertisements I came across when researching past and current FedEx Express advertisements for an assignment last semester. They were created by the advertising company BBDO in New York for FedEx Kinkos and placed in areas of New York City in 2005 (Mediabistro Inc., 2015).

"Giant Highlighter" (Mediabistro Inc., 2015a)

"White Out" (Mediabistro Inc., 2015b)

"Street Desk Light" (Coloribus, 2015)

What I like most about these advertisements are their simplicity. I like the idea of taking an everyday item and placing it in a foreign environment. Who would ever expect to find everyday office supplies outside? Oddly, each item seems as though it belongs to its new environment. Everytime I look at them I laugh! I find advertisements that are funny stand out the most for me. I could only imagine how shocking it would be to walk down a street or through a park and see these larger-than-life displays. Wouldn’t you? Do you find them creative? Do they inspire or motivate you?
